welcome to new growth counselling
At New Growth Counselling, we offer trauma-informed, client-centered, and strengths-based counselling services tailored for adults as well as groups affected by shared traumatic experiences.
Our approach is grounded in research-based therapies that are integrative—working with the nervous system and body, as well as emotional and cognitive processes—to support healing, emotional growth, and resilience.
We offer specialized services such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and parts work to help you process experiences, connect to and strengthen inner resources, and create meaningful, lasting change.
We help you meet your therapeutic goals by:
Creating a safe and supportive space.
Facilitating emotional growth: building emotional awareness, literacy, and tolerance.
Offering evidence-based therapeutic techniques to improve psychological well-being and create lasting change.
Whether you’re seeking help to heal from recent or resurfaced trauma, navigate life’s challenges, or make meaningful changes in your well-being, we’re here to support your journey toward greater psychological health.

While one-to-one counselling is currently full and operating on a waitlist, you're welcome to add your name to the list here if you'd like to be contacted when a space becomes available.
In the meantime, Katherine is creating new ways to support healing and emotional readiness—including a self-paced course, Preparing for Therapy, and future group offerings. Feel free to sign up for updates if you'd like to hear more as these become available.

areas of service
At New Growth Counselling, we specialize in helping adults and organizations in the days, weeks, and months following a traumatic or overwhelming event — a time when the impact is fresh, disruptive, and in need of focused, compassionate care.
We also support those experiencing symptoms from past trauma resurfacing — even when it’s not immediately obvious that past experiences are the cause. These reactions can emerge during stressful times, life transitions, or even positive changes, leaving you feeling unsettled, disconnected, or not quite yourself.
You may be:
COPING WITH THE IMMEDIATE EFFECTS OF A RECENT EVENT
Feeling on edge, restless, or unable to relax
Experiencing flashbacks, nightmares, or vivid memories
Struggling to sleep or concentrate
Avoiding reminders of what happened, or feeling “numb”
Overwhelmed by waves of emotion — or unable to feel much at all
Noticing changes in appetite, motivation, or daily routines
NAVIGATING RESURFACED TRAUMA
Experiencing emotional or physical reactions that seem “out of the blue”
Feeling more reactive or sensitive than usual, without knowing why
Struggling with old patterns or coping habits that no longer work
Noticing these reactions during transitions — even positive ones like a new job, relationship, or move
FACING A SUDDEN LOSS OR CHANGE
Grieving after a death, separation, or other significant loss
Supporting friends, colleagues, or a team after tragedy
LOOKING FOR ORGANIZATIONAL TRAUMA SUPPORT
We work with teams, workplaces, and community groups after abnormal or critical incidents to provide:
Immediate emotional support in the aftermath of a crisis
Safe, guided debriefing spaces to process what happened
Early recovery strategies to restore stability, connection, and capacity
Whether you’re a leader seeking support for your staff or part of a group impacted by an event, we bring a trauma-informed, neuroscience-grounded approach to help people feel heard, supported, and equipped to move forward.
areas of practice
At New Growth Counselling, we offer a blend of evidence-based therapeutic practices designed to meet your unique needs. Our tailored approach ensures that your therapy aligns with your personal goals while being grounded in methods shown effective through research.
Discover how our diverse range of therapies can support your growth and well-being:
EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing)
EMDR helps the brain process and integrate overwhelming experiences, reducing distress and shifting unhelpful patterns — often without needing to revisit every detail.

PARTS WORK
A gentle, collaborative approach that helps bring the different aspects of yourself into alignment when they’ve become disconnected or in conflict. The goal is integration — fostering cooperation within yourself so you can better connect to and strengthen the inner resources already there, building self-compassion and resilience.
TRAUMA-INFORMED
Trauma-informed counseling recognizes that our symptoms and responses are often rooted in how we’ve learned to cope with overwhelming, adverse, or neglectful experiences. Rather than viewing behaviors as signs that something is "wrong," a trauma-informed counselor understands them as adaptive survival strategies.
With a focus on safety, empowerment, and healing, trauma-informed counseling creates a supportive environment where you can explore these responses, build self-understanding, and work toward lasting well-being
CLIENT-CENTRED
Client-centered therapy is a collaborative approach that views you as the expert of your own life. This therapy emphasizes your unique experiences, strengths, and innate ability to make meaningful decisions.
A client-centered therapist provides a supportive, non-judgmental environment to foster self-discovery, self-acceptance, and personal growth, empowering you to navigate your path toward well-being and fulfillment.
RELATIONAL AND SYSTEMS-INFORMED APPROACH
We understand psychological distress in the context of relationships — not only with ourselves, but within the larger systems we’re part of, such as families, communities, workplaces, and culture. Seeing ourselves within this interconnected web can reveal the roots of current challenges and highlight where change is possible. Thriving in these relational ecosystems is essential for psychological well-being, and our work includes exploring how to navigate them in ways that support both you and your connections with others.
